This is a collection of the papers presented on the “Seminar on the Research and Teaching of Sentence Patterns” hosted by the College of Chinese Studies of BLCU. This book includes a total of 27 papers written by eminent experts and scholars such as Lu Jianming, Li Xiaoqi, Chen Zhong, Zhang Baolin, etc. Trendy theories like construction grammar, cognitive grammar, grammaticalization, memetics, pedagogy and SLA are adopted to deal with the important and difficult sentence patterns in teaching and learning Chinese, for example, “Sentence Category, Sentence Structure, Sentence Mode, Sentence Pattern and Construction” (by Lu Jianming), “Correspondence between the Variables ‘Structure-Function’ in Transitive Constructions and the Synchronization Mechanism for the Transitivity” (by Chen Zhong), “Features of Sentence Patterns in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language” and “Problems Concerning Sentence Patterns in Chinese Textbooks for Middle School Students Overseas” (by Li Xiaoqi et al.), “The Structure and Function of the Topical Construction ‘对(于)……来说’” (by Liu Shun), and so on.
Professor Chen Zhong is the assistant dean of the College of Chinese Studies of BLCU and the Chinese Head of the Confucius Institute of Georgia State University, US. Mr. Chen pursued his studies in Fudan University and was a student of the eminent linguist Fan Xiao. Mr. Chen got a Ph.D. in literature in 2002 and has published many academic papers on key journals such as Zhongguo Yuwen (Studies of the Chinese Language).
